Distance: 10.77 miles
Time: 1:54:45
Pace: 10:38/mile
Temperature: 85 (feels like 90)
Lesson learned: Start drinking Propel and eating Clif shot blocks or Jelly Belly sport beans again. I was supposed to run 12 miles today but absolutely conked out because of the heat and my insufficient preparation. I stopped at home after the first 49 minutes to replenish my water bottle, but the water warmed up so fast that it felt useless. Other lesson learned: don't leave your running shoes in Boston by mistake...I've been running with an old pair so I picked up a pair of Asics at Lady Foot Locker in Ballston today. I'm probably going to run on the beach in the Outer Banks (out-and-backs so I don't end up running one way on a banked surface the whole time).

various virginia runs
Am catching up on blogging--I've been fairly good about keeping up with running (just not track workouts) since I've been in Virginia the past week.
6/19/2008 3 x 1 minute easy, 1 minute easy/moderate, 3 minutes moderate, 3 minutes walking plus warmup and cooldown
6/20/2008 Ran 2 miles (8:36, 8:46) plus four sets of bleachers at W&L track.
6/21/2008 (10 miles, 1:42:50, 10:17/mile)
Ran with Sam (blogidarity!) from mile marker 2.0 to 4.5 and back on the Four Mile Run trail, then from mile marker 3.5 to 6 on the W&OD trail. Virginia hills and humidity kick my butt now! I'd only run the Four Mile Run trail once before, and was happy to find out that it splits into two parts (one boring one and one through streams). It also has way less bikers than the W&OD or Mt. Vernon trails. I really appreciated all the water fountains and presence of an Exxon near W&OD mile marker 6.
6/23/2008 Ran about six miles during a WH4 trail.
6/24/2008 (3.75 miles, 36:41, 9:47/mile)
6/25/2008 (1.96 miles, 17:09, 8:45/mile)
6/26/2008 (3.58 miles, 34:37, 9:41/mile)
It is 90 degrees outside (weather.com says it "feels like 95."). Ow. I'm going to start plotting a 12-mile run for tomorrow (since I won't have time to do it on Saturday when in the Outer Banks)...now I'm actually motivated to get up at 6:00 a.m.!

run today w/ emily
Distance: 5.1 miles
Time: 46:35
Pace: 9:09/mile
Same run as usual, but better weather. I only had coffee this morning but felt fine because it wasn't excessively humid. And as I am writing this, my friend Biba gchatted me to say she saw me running. Odd!

run today
Distance: 3.01 miles
Time: 29:56
Pace: 9:57/mile
My legs were screaming in pain this morning after playing boot last night with some other Suckwagon folks, so I did three miles this afternoon as a recovery.

run with emily in the first hot weather of the year
Distance: 5.11 miles
Time: 46:08
Pace: 9:02/mile
Yesterday I had all of one glass of water during dinner and then couldn't buy any while standing in line for the Sex and the City movie, so I went to bed fairly dehydrated. I woke up this morning and had a glass of water, but that was not enough to not feel like I was dying all through the run. I'm glad that I ran with Emily though--I would have quit after two miles if I were alone! I also need to learn how to gauge my pace accurately. I thought we were doing ten minute miles the entire time because I felt so overheated/dehydrated.
